Can we agree that politicians sometimes do absurd things? A group of creatives thinks so, and they’re taking aim at America’s latest anti-abortion stances with Congress Sutra, a satirical book that turns anti-abortion politicians into the ultimate turn-offs.
In a Halloween release that’s as darkly comedic as it is pointed, a team of anonymous advertising creatives has joined forces with political cartoonist Jesse Duquette, creator of The Daily Don, to launch Congress Sutra.
With the tagline ‘The Republican Guide to Abstinence’, this 30-page satirical Kama Sutra-style book reimagines prominent anti-abortion politicians in — shall we say — “libido-killing” poses. Their restrictive stances become, quite literally, the ultimate deterrent to sex.
Released this week on CongressSutra.com and Instagram under @congresssutra, the book retails for $25, with 100% of proceeds supporting nonprofits dedicated to defending reproductive rights.
Described by its creators as a “guide to abstinence”, the book uses caricatures of some of America’s political figures to highlight the serious impacts of current reproductive policies.
“Politicians are tearing apart abortion rights, and contraceptives could be next,” the creators say. “Soon, abstinence might really be our only option. Congress Sutra isn’t just a book; it’s a satirical response to a surreal political reality.”
This provocative release doesn’t aim to widen partisan divides but to raise awareness about the ongoing erosion of reproductive rights under what the creators call “a campaign of control disguised as moral governance”. The book’s “positions” aim to turn readers off from sex altogether — which, as the creators put it, “may ultimately eliminate the need for abortion if these politicians get their way”.
Congress Sutra is available now, so grab a copy if you’re ready to laugh, cringe, and maybe even feel inspired to support the cause through some seriously sharp satire.
